For brands working with creators, the instinct is often to treat the relationship as a direct line to distribution: borrow the audience, deliver the message, move on to the next activation. That approach can be effective, and it has its place. But there is a more durable alternative, one with the potential to do more than borrow attention. This version of creator-led work asks for a deeper level of commitment. It starts with a brand understanding the story it has permission to participate in, then building the kind of creative structure that can deepen over time.
That is the space Portal A has been exploring with Lenovo through Creator Odyssey, a multi-chapter property built around the artist’s journey. What began as a global creative chain reaction has evolved across three installments, expanding from an international creator collaboration to a more introspective artist challenge and, most recently, Creator Odyssey: World Stage, a FIFA World Cup-timed chapter connecting artists, athletes, football culture, and Lenovo’s Yoga Aura Edition laptop across five continents.
Brand Storytelling caught up with Portal A’s Head of Strategy Aditi Rajvanshi to discuss how creator-led ideas can grow into repeatable IP, how audience response shaped the evolution of Creator Odyssey, and why sustained creative partnerships can build brand equity in ways one-off influencer placements rarely can.
At a high level, how does Portal A approach the intersection of creative development, direction, and strategy when designing a multi-year creator-led property rather than a one-off activation?
At the start of a project, we rarely know whether something will evolve into a multi-year property. During creative development, our focus is simply to build work that breaks through the noise – a principle that naturally ensures our ideas are built for the long run. We are not trying to make another piece of content that you mindlessly scroll past, but something that’s rooted in big creative ideas, and executions that meet a high bar and indicate to the viewer that they are watching something high quality which ultimately leads to deeper engagement.
Irrespective of the brief, the first step is always to understand the opportunity from the brand’s perspective and our own. Defining what ‘success’ looks like from both angles gives us the creative sandbox to experiment and strategically choose the big swings worth taking. Creator Odyssey launched in early 2024 and has since grown into a multi-chapter IP for Lenovo, but it didn’t set out to be a franchise. It started with a clear vision, an ambitious brief and a singular focus on building something valuable to artists globally while positioning Lenovo as a partner in their artistic journey. We know the value of brands building IP that’s uniquely theirs and the impact of long term brand-creator partnerships, so to us creating something that outlasts the moment is an inherent strength.
What was the original strategic thesis behind Creator Odyssey, and how has that thesis and the creative evolved across the three chapters?
The Lenovo team approached us with a clear, direct ask: help us reach the global creative class. From the start, our strategic thesis was to center the conversation on the artist’s journey – showing the raw, messy reality of the creative process so makers around the world could see themselves reflected in the narrative. We knew that if we nailed that authenticity, the product and brand would weave in seamlessly. This strategic foundation has remained at the heart of every chapter, even as the creative execution has evolved to meet new briefs.
Here is how the creative vision built upon that strategic foundation:
- Chapter 1: Built around a creative chain reaction, Chapter 1 followed a single Lenovo laptop on a journey through Mexico, Belgium, Australia, India, Japan, and Norway. Seven distinct creators drew inspiration from one another, transforming the device into the catalyst for a one-of-a-kind global collaboration.
- Chapter 2: Where Chapter 1 was expansive, Chapter 2 was introspective. We focused on a different aspect of an artist’s story – leveling up by stepping outside their comfort zone. Bringing back anchor creators Gawx Art and Vexx, we co-designed an ambitious artistic challenge based directly on their input.
- Chapter 3: For the most recent chapter the goal was loud and clear – bring together the worlds of artists and athletes, just in time of the peaking interest in the soccer world cup. Arguably our loudest chapter to date, World Stage took learnings from the first two chapters and returned to its global origins bringing together 7 creators from 7 football obsessed parts of the world. We capped off the campaign with an IRL showcase in Mexico City, bringing all 7 artists and their art together for an in person reveal.
How did audience data and performance from the first two chapters inform the latest installment?
At 250+ pieces of content, 50M+ views, 1.5M+ engagements, over 1M watch hours and overwhelmingly positive audience sentiment, Creator Odyssey is a veritable success. While total views reflect the program’s massive reach, it is the high viewer retention measured in watch hours and the glowing audience sentiment that have become the true hallmarks of each chapter.
When analyzing our Chapter 1 performance, we were blown away by the audience’s response. YouTube comment sections consistently echoed themes of inspiration, an appreciation for the elevated storytelling, and a deep interest in the behind-the-scenes process. Realizing that viewers were just as invested in the creative journey as the final reveal fundamentally shaped our narrative pacing and distribution strategy for every chapter that followed. Prioritizing deep retention and engagement over superficial reach has had a direct impact on everything from talent selection to creative direction to production and distribution decisions.
With Creator Odyssey: World Stage, how did you translate the FIFA World Cup 2026 into a creative framework that feels native to creators while still advancing Lenovo’s brand goals?
Creator Odyssey: World Stage was our first attempt at bringing the enormity of a global tentpole to a beloved IP. In many ways, it was a proof of concept for what Creator Odyssey could do. Instead of trying to force fit the tentpole into an already established process, we zoomed in on the shared DNA of elite athletes and world-class artists: passion, discipline, and an innate drive to push human capability to its limits.
We empowered every Creator to find their own unique connection with the artists as athlete foundational thesis, resulting in 7 truly unique videos that brought the concept to life. Hosting our live art showcase in Mexico City, one of the hosts of the FIFA World Cup, further strengthened the relevance with the tentpole, allowing artists from five continents to interpret football culture through mediums ranging from VFX and 3D design to mixed-reality sculptures
How do you ensure the product remains meaningfully embedded in the creative without feeling extraneous / forced?
We approach product and brand integration in a custom way for each project. We built a thorough understanding of the product in this case, the Lenovo Yoga Aura Edition laptop and its core features. We then work with each Creator to understand their custom use cases depending on their art form of choosing and which parts of the creative process the laptop would be most effective in. This approach allows Creators to show how they built something using the product in a seamless way. By partnering with artists whose art forms rely on clear digital outputs, the product story was naturally baked into the narrative.
What is the role of the documentary-style brand film as the culminating asset for the chapter?
The brand film is our definitive take on the program – the most comprehensive telling of Chapter 3’s overarching narrative. With each chapter we think deeply about the role of the brand in storytelling which is precisely what gives the brand film its purpose. It’s also the piece of content we own end to end, shaping it entirely from creative through production and post-production. Working with seven creators who each have a distinct approach to the core concept, the brand film synthesizes those disparate threads into a single, cohesive story. From a program POV, it acts as Lenovo’s hero asset across paid and organic channels, internal leadership showcases, live events, industry awards, and film festivals.
Looking at the results and reception so far, what does Creator Odyssey: World Stage reveal about the future of brand-funded entertainment when creators, strategy, and long-term IP are fully integrated?
50M+ views, 1.5M + engagements and 1M+ watch hours later, the lesson is clear: audience loyalty isn’t bought through one-off influencer placements; it’s built through long-term, sustained creative collaborations. Creator Odyssey shows that when brands invest in repeatable creator IP, they stop chasing temporary blips of attention and start building lasting equity that transcends geographical and cultural boundaries. Lastly, this success is not built on the glitz and glamor of traditional celebrity or big ticket media campaigns, instead it’s built on engaging with artists and their communities in meaningful ways.
